Today it was announced that Texas A&M University locked up Head Coach Kevin Sumlin to a six-year extension, in principal, to remain at College Station. According to Travis Haney (ESPN), the Aggie decision makers were in fear that they would lose Sumlin to the Houston Texans.
There have been rumors of Sumlin being linked to the Texans and for the time being this will put those rumors to rest. Questions about the head coaching situation have come into light since the Texans have started 2 and 9 this season while expectations were at the Super Bowl level at the start of the season.
Because of the slow start, Gary Kubiak's future beyond this season has become in doubt and Sumlin's name has slowly surfaced. The college head coaching scene changes day-to-day and it will be interesting to see how long this deal lasts for Sumlin.
