Digging Deep: Baltimore Edition

The Texans followed up their worst performance of the season with their best, laying a 43-13 beatdown on the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday. This win moves them to 6-1 and breaks a tie with the Ravens for the best record in the AFC going into their bye. It also gives them a 2.5 game division lead over the Colts.

The number of points the Texans scored in the second quarter, compared to zero for the Ravens. The Texans were only up 9-3 after the first quarter, but this 20-point quarter gave them a lead that proved to be insurmountable. The Texans’ yards per carry. They ran the ball 37 times for 181 yards. This is a vast improvement from the Green Bay game and made a big difference in the offense’s success.

The Texans recorded four sacks on Sunday, but who got them is more exciting than the actual number. Connor Barwin finally got on the board with his first sack of the season. It resulted in a safety for the Texans’ first points of the game. Antonio Smith also had two sacks after being quiet for the previous few weeks. Finally, rookie first round pick Whitney Mercilus recorded his first sack of his career, forcing a fumble that lead to Barwin’s safety on the next play.

16 & 34
The Texans’ longest run play was 16 yards and their longest pass was 34 yards. About the only thing the Ravens did well all game has limit the huge play.
