Houston Texans 53-Man Roster Final Prediction

Patrick D. Starr

A final crack at the Houston Texans 53-man roster before the NFL cutdown deadline.

QB Deshaun Watson, Brandon Weeden

Joe Webb exits the roster after being on it the past three updates. He is pushed out due to not letting a younger player leave the roster.

RB Lamar Miller, Troymaine Pope, Alfred Blue, Tyler Ervin, Jay Prosch

It is hard to feel good about this group and outside of Lamar Miller and Alfred Blue there could be new faces joining at some point this season. Jay Prosch makes the roster because O'Brien has never been without one in his offensive packages.

TE Ryan Griffin, Jordan Thomas, Jordan Akins

Same group since the updates started.

WR DeAndre Hopkins, Will Fuller, Keke Coutee, Braxton Miller, Bruce Ellington

Bruce Ellington returns to this replacing Sammie Coates and it will be the same group as last season with the addition of the rookie Keke Coutee. One of the stronger groups of the offense.

OT Seantreal Henderson, Julién Davenport, Martinas Rankin, Someone Not in Houston

OG Zach Fulton, Senio Kelemete, Greg Mancz, David Quessenberry

C Nick Martin

The Texans look like they were willing to keep the Kendall Lamm experiment going but that was answered in the final preseason game it is time to move on.While the final guard spot is between David Quessenberry and Chad Slade, Flip a coin, it could go either way there.

Specialty

Jon Weeks, Ka’imi Fairbairn, Shane Lechler

Trevor Daniel has done enough to unseat Lechler but the Texans stick with Lechler due to trusting he can stay consistent.

Defense

NT D.J. Reader, Brandon Dunn

DL J.J. Watt, Christian Covington, Joel Heath, Carlos Watkins

Angelo Blackson could make the roster but it is Heath for us. Maybe the Texans explore possibly trading someone from their defensive line group from Heath, Watkins or Blackson.

OLB Whitney Mercilus, Jadeveon Clowney, Brennan Scarlett, Duke Ejiofor

Same group from from the start.

ILB Benardrick McKinney, Zach Cunningham, Dylan Cole, Brian Peters, Peter Kalambayi

Brian Peters has gotten better at ILB and an interesting development was the Texans working Kalambayi at this position group in the final preseason game. They keep the rookie in the mix by finding him a home here.

CB Johnathan Joseph, Kevin Johnson, Aaron Colvin, Johnson Bademosi, Kayvon Webster, Andre Chachere

The final roster spot is opened for Andre Chachere and he gets it over Dee Virgin.

S Tyrann Mathieu, Kareem Jackson, Justin Reid, Kurtis Drummond, Treston Decoud

Doesn’t feel like the Texans are ready to pull the plug on Treston Decoud, they take him over Corey Moore.
