Houston Texans Cornerback Phillip Gaines Season Comes to an End

Patrick D. Starr

The Houston Texans are placing cornerback Phillip Gaines on the injured reserve after suffering a left ankle injury. The injury occurred in the Texans' loss to the Indianapolis Colts. Gaines was attempting to make a tackle when his left leg was pinned under him and that caused him to instantly grab for his leg after the play.

Gaines suffered a high ankle sprain that will require surgery and will require months of rehab to get back on his feet.

Gaines has appeared in six games since being signed earlier in the season. He has 11 total tackles and two passes defended.

In response to placing Gaines on the injured reserve, the Texans reportedly traded for Oakland Raiders cornerback Gareon Conley to help their depth at the position.
