Houston Texans Extend Rookie Mini-Camp Invite to Ole Miss QB Jordan Ta'amu
Patrick D. Starr
The Houston Texans are two weeks from their three-day rookie-mini camp where the organization brings in their rookies to get accustomed to NFL life. The Texans have extended a rookie-camp invite to Ole Miss quarterback Jordan Ta’amu. Ta’amu would one at least one of the quarterbacks on hand to help run the offense and throw the ball around to skill players. Not only do the Texans have an eye on Ta’amu. He also has an invite to the Oakland Raiders rookie camp.
Ta’amu and the Texans met at Ole Miss pro day and had a private workout.
Ta’amu checks in at 6-foot-3 and 221 lbs.
In 2018, Ta’amu threw for 3,918 yards with 19 touchdowns and eight interceptions while rushing for 342 yards and six rushing touchdowns. Completing 64% of his passes for the Rebels, Ta’amu averaged 326.5 yards per game and 9.4 yards per completion.
For his career he appeared in 20 games, throwing for 5,600 yards, 30 passing touchdowns and 12 interceptions averaging 280 yards through the air per game.
At Ole Miss, Ta’amu broke the all-time school record for 400-yard passing games with four and tied the school record for most 300-yard passing games with twelve. He finished sixth all-time with 5,600 career passing yards. His 30 career passing touchdowns rank him ninth.
The Texans currently have two quarterbacks on the roster in Deshaun Watson and A.J. McCarron. The team will more than likely sign a quarterback or two heading into OTAs and training camp to spread the passing duties around to run huddles and get skill players to work on the field.
Ta’amu will have to impress during the rookie mini-camp to land a contract with the Texans.
