Texans Coach DeMeco Ryans Hire? Jim Nantz Reveals Thoughts

As the Texans prepare for their first season under DeMeco Ryans, the new coach received a vote of confidence from Jim Nantz.

While plenty of emphasis and analysis goes into what players a team acquires, however they do so, that is not the only element that makes for a successful franchise. Nailing your head coach hire can be just as crucial.

The Houston Texans saw this last season as they went 3-13-1 under Lovie Smith while Doug Pederson led their AFC South rivals, the Jacksonville Jaguars, to a 9-8 record en route to winning the division.

Now, the Texans hope their new hire can see similar results during his first season in Houston. DeMeco Ryans has received plenty of praise so far this offseason, with legendary commentator Jim Nantz joining the list of his supporters in an interview with PaperCity.

“I love the hire of DeMeco,” said Nantz, the lead voice at CBS Sports who of course got his broadcasting start here after graduating from the University of Houston. “I meet with these guys all during football season and he would have been the first guy I would have taken if I had a team and I wanted to go get a coach that had never been a coach before."

"I have faith that the city can go back to those halcyon days before the city exploded and had the boom and it can transcend just being a college basketball town. He has a real presence about him."

There is no telling how good the Texans will look in their first year under Ryans, especially as they continue to find themselves coming out of a rebuild. If the praise that he's received from Nantz and countless others proves true, though, there is a lot to be excited about in Houston.
