Here is the midseason report for the Texans special teams.

Hartmann and Rackers

The Texans kicking game has been suspect so far this season. The thought of Neil Rackers missing the field goal in the Oakland game put the Texans in a bad position late in that game and he missed an end of half field goal against the Jaguars. Rackers has been consistent for the Texans, but he is missing some key kicks during games.

As for Brett Hartmann, the Texans need to let him punt and punt only. It is apparent that he is having a hard time during kickoffs and seems like he is squibbing majority of his kickoffs. He has been ok in the punt game but there is room for improvement.

The Texans kicking game needs to get solid, because closing in on the end of the season every yard and point counts and the Texans kicking game could play a vital role on the Texans post season hopes.
