Potential Free Agent WRs for the Texans

In this segment is where we look at potential free agents who could possibly could fit with the Houston Texans. I know this is not Madden, and possibly the free agent moves the Texans may or may not make will rest of the contract status of Mario Williams. Even still we can have a wish list, and a realistic one on top of that. When we mean realistic, we know the Texans can't afford a DeSean Jackson, Reggie Wayne, Dwayne Bowe or a Vincent Jackson because they are going to demand top dollar in their next contract.

Pierre Garcon

We put together the top 5 free agent wide receivers who would look good in a Texans uniform, and hopefully these 5 wide receivers will test the market and give the Texans a chance to bring them in opposite of Andre Johnson.

5. Plaxico Burress, New York Jets

I know what you are saying, he is a problem and the ownership do not like character problems, which is true. It seems the past year the Texans have loosened their claws when it comes to character issues and let some players make the Texans roster. With that said he may not demand a double team, but he can win the one on one matchups with consistency. He was one of the top wide receivers in the NFL before his gun incident that landed him in prison. If the Texans can't find another quality wide receiver before the start of the 2012 season, they could do a stop-gap with the 34-year-old who still has something left in the tank. Burress in 2011 with the Jets had 45 receptions for 612 yards and 8 touchdowns.

4. Mario Manningham, New York Giants

Still playing and in the Super Bowl, Manningham has seem to disappear because of the emergence of second year player Victor Cruz. Manningham will be entering his 5th year in the NFL to start the 2012 season, and had a career year in 2010 with 60 receptions for 944 yards and 9 touchdowns. His numbers have dipped in 2011, but has made some big catches especially in the playoffs. Only 25 years old, Manningham has plenty of football ahead of him, and one would think this could be the last year for Manningham in New York. At 6'0" and 185 lbs. he doesn't fit the big wide receivers that the team likes, but he is definitely an upgrade to a questionable Texans receiver corps.

3. Pierre Garcon, Indianapolis Colts

One would think the Colts will do everything they can to keep Garcon in Indianapolis, especially with it looking like Reggie Wayne might be on his way out. Garcon who is also 25, is a wide receiver who is tough and has another gear when he gets into open space. Garcon might be a product of the Colts offensive minded system, but he has all of the tools to be a solid addition to any team. Garcon without Peyton Manning turned into the go to receiver for the Colts and posted 70 receptions for 947 yards and 6 touchdowns. His receptions and yards were career highs and his touchdowns tied his career best, the chances of Garcon leaving Indianapolis are thin especially with all of the change fixing to occur.

2. Stevie Johnson, Buffalo Bills

The 25-year-old Johnson was an offensive threat for a lackluster Buffalo Bills offense the past two seasons. He has eclipsed the 1,000 yard receiving barrier the past two seasons and has caught 17 touchdowns in that span. Johnson has been known to have lapses mentally and have a sense of immaturity at times. Maybe a change of scenery will help him out, but he is a real talent that makes big plays. Johnson is a special player, but the knock on him will be his consistency and if he can get over that hump and turn into a real football player.

1. Robert Meachem, New Orleans Saints

Robert Meachem

With all of the wide receivers in New Orleans there will be an opprotunity for a player like Meachem to test the market. With fellow teammate Marques Colston also up for a new contract, it is probably safe to say one of them walks, and our pick is Meachem. At 6'2" ,210 lbs. Meachem has shown flashes of being a special player, most importantly he can stretch the field vertically. He fits the mold the best when it comes to the prototypical Texans wide receiver, and he has been playing in the shadows of Marques Coltson, Devery Henderson and now Jimmy Graham it might be a good time to make his own name with another team. Teamed up with Andre Johnson and Kevin Walter, the addition of Meachem would give the Texans that vertical playmaker they have been lacking for the past few seasons.
