SOTT is still going at it in Crown Royal's First-And-Crown Fantasy Football league. It's been four weeks and with the 5th week looming, the league is heating up. It's still rough going for our team with some poorly timed bye-weeks (thanks, Cam Newton!), but we're still holding out hope for a comeback season as we scour the waiver wires and pulled out (gasp!) a win since we last spoke.
Follow along with our recap of weeks three and four:
Week 3 Matchup Against Broncos Reign 78.00-67.00 (W)(1-2)
Naturally a team named Broncos Reign has Peyton Manning (DEN) as their starting QB, and with the way he'd been playing at this point we were rightfully concerned. Our experiment with starting Sam Bradford (STL) over Cam Newton (CAR) failed miserably with the Panthers QB scoring 34 points on our bench while Bradford posted a modest 15. Dare I say the Dallas Cowboys defense (who coincidentally scored us 18 pts.) might be for real... Of course, Manning was Manning so naturally we were sweating just a bit. Luckily for us WR Josh Gordon (CLE) balled out of his mind with 146 rec. yds., 1 TD and 22 rushing yds. In the end, our team effort was enough with our opponent's WR Marlon Brown (BAL) and TE Tyler Eifert (CIN) scoring them big, fat goose eggs. TE Garrett Graham also graced us with an oval-shaped number of points, but we know his fantasy performance will pick up. State of the Texans gets it's first (but definitely not last) win of the season.
As for our roster, we ended up benching RB Rashard Mendenhall (ARI) due to a particularly poor performance and bringing up Ahmad Bradshawwho's shown promise as the Colts new golden boy. We picked up WR Santana Moss(WAS), dropping RB Brandon Jacobs (NYG) because Moss had been having a solid year thus far and we needed some more depth at WR and a week 4 replacement for DeAndre Hopkins who likely would not have a big game against the best secondary in the league in the Seahawks. We were also able to pick up WR T.Y. Hilton (IND) to add even more depth. On to week 4 we trekked...
Week 4 Matchup Against KC Fandom 68.00-95.00 (L)(1-3)
We shouldn't have reveled in our opponent's team having two players scoring absolute nothing because that's exactly what happened to us this week. RB Bradshaw and WR Moss were completely shut down. Adding insult to injury, we were forced to continue the Sam Bradford QB experiment because Cam Newton was in a bye week. Our Houston Texans players showed up with TE Garrett Graham returning to form snagging 69 yds. and a TD, and RB Arian Foster with 102 rushing yds., 69 rec. yds. and a TD. But WR Josh Gordon posted a measly 71 yds. against the Bengals defense - but we know he'll continue to be a key factor in the Browns' offense and his fantasy value should remain high. In the end, we couldn't compete with the blockbuster performances of WRs Anquan Boldin (SF), Victor Cruz (NYG), RB Trent Richardson (IND) and the Kansas City Chiefs' defense.
Considering Moss' disappearance, we activated Hilton for week 5 and dropped Moss for TE Scott Chandler (BUF) for depth. The Sam Bradford experiment is officially suspended indefinitely with Cam Newton returning from his bye week. I blame myself. We were able to pick up RB Chris Ivory (NYJ) who will be coming off an injury into an offense that desperately needs him. We activated RB David Wilson (NYG) who has overcome his first-of-the-season woes and will see his workload increase due to the release of committee RB teammate Da'Rel Scott (NYG).
Our (still improving) roster for Week 5 looking ahead:
- QB - Cam Newton (CAR)
- RB - Arian Foster (HOU)
- RB - David Wilson (NYG)
- WR - Josh Gordon (CLE)
- WR - DeAndre Hopkins (HOU)
- TE - Garrett Graham (HOU)
- DEF - Dallas Cowboys
- K - Randy Bullock (HOU)
Next up, we play The Royal BALTYs (1-3) and What the Buc? (1-3). Keep your eyes on State of the Texans for future updates on our team and for prize giveaways in the upcoming weeks! As always, Texans fans: Game on and #ReignOn.
