Free agent linebacker Tavares Gooden is set to join the Houston Texans on Monday, according to reports. Gooden worked out for the Texans earlier in the year in a private workout. Gooden attended the University of Miami and was drafted in the 2008 NFL Draft in the 3rd round (71st overall) by the Baltimore Ravens, who he played with from 2008-2010. He was plagued by injuries with the Ravens and never made his mark in Baltimore.
When joining the San Francisco 49ers in 2011, he made his name known on special teams. In 57 total NFL games, he has 90 tackles with 1 pass deflection and 1 forced fumble.
With the season ending injury to Brian Cushing and the release of Tim Dobbins, the Texans needed inside linebacker and special teams help for the remainder of the season. Gooden appeared in the 2012 NFC Championship for the 49ers last season.
