Texans Bill O'Brien Knows Ravens Lamar Jackson is a 'MVP Candidate for a Reason'

The Houston Texans are preparing for a crucial AFC game against the Baltimore Ravens. The Texans and Ravens are sitting on the top half of the AFC standings, which puts even more emphasis on the game this Sunday.

Head coach Bill O'Brien understands that Ravens are a difficult team to prepare for in all three phases. O'Brien also understands the Ravens have the potential league MVP leading them to their success in 2019.

"I mean, it's impressive," O'Brien said of Jackson's play to start the season. "I mean, he is very instinctive. Very smart, has a great command of their offense. Competitive, great runner, great thrower. He can do it all."

Jackson has thrown for 2,036 yards and 15 touchdowns to only five interceptions while rushing for 702 yards and six touchdowns in nine games.

O'Brien continued, "I mean he is an MVP candidate for a reason, I mean, he has two games where he's at a perfect rating. He's playing at a high level. I think they're doing a great job of how they're scheming up the offense, and then he's going out there with his teammates, and they are executing at a high level, so he's doing a great job."

The Ravens are sitting at 7-2 through nine games, and the success that Jackson is having does not surprise O'Brien. The Texans met with Jackson during the draft process and were impressed with him in meetings and interviews.

O'Brien has been impressed seeing him grow as a player from Louisville to this season with the Ravens.

"He's an excellent player; we have a lot of respect for him," O'Brien said of Jackson. "People make, make a big deal about his ability to run, but he can throw it too. I mean he's throwing it at a high level too. So, and he knows how to get the ball to the right guys, and like I said, it's challenging, and we're going to have to have a good week of practice and go up there and do the best we can."
