Texans Ink Chris D. Clemons to a 2-Year Deal

According to ESPN's Tania Ganguli, the Houston Texans have agreed to terms with safety Chris Clemons and will help with the depth of the Texans safety position. Clemons has spent his last five seasons with the Miami Dolphins where he has appeared in 72 games with 48 starts.

He was drafted out of Clemson in the 2009 NFL Draft in the 5th round (165th overall) where he ran a 4.41 40-yard dash coming out of college. His speed for his size (6-1, 214 lbs.) is a nice combination for a NFL safety, and he is better than average in coverage.

Clemons has started all 32 games the past two season, and is considered was leader of the defense in 2013, The Phinsider Had this to Say of Clemons:

"In training camp, Clemons was clearly the leader of the secondary, and most of the defense, calling out signals, and making sure everyone was in the correct positions."

More of a traditional free safety, Clemons worked 28% of his snaps inside the box according to Pro Football Focus. He made a living outside the box roaming and covering bigger tight ends for the Dolphins defensive secondary. Clemons showed when needed he can come into the box and give run support, and also was asked to cover wide receivers in the slot at times. He can do a little bit of it all as a safety, which will give the Texans more flexibility from that position.

For his career he had 209 total tackles, with 12 pass deflections, 3 interceptions and 2 forced fumbles.
