Texans Using Depth To Compete
Patrick D. Starr
One of the biggest issues for the Houston Texans in previous years was the overall depth of the team. Injuries have torn through the NFL and many big name stars are going down with season ending injuries. The Texans are not immune to this and this year is no different.
The Texans have been forced to look to their sideline to stay competitive during the season, and it had been important to realize the job General Manager Rick Smith and his staff has done to put a good team on the field.
The Texans have kept pace in the AFC South despite their injuries and hold a 1/2 game lead over the second place Tennessee Titans. With the big stars the Texans have had go down during the season, many teams would have had a hard time being competitive on the field.
Luckily, the Texans front office signed two important pieces on defense which gave them potentially three starting corners on their roster and the ability to move players to other positions to increase their depth. It is times like these that show if the front office is doing their job, and currently it looks like they are.
It is frustrating to lose close games, to the Saints, Ravens and Raiders, but the Texans have kept a quality product on the field with all of the injured players and are putting themselves in a good position for more wins this 2011 season.
