The Good, The Bad and The Ugly: Kansas City Edition

The Texans played the Chiefs down to the wire but ended up losing to the only undefeated team in the NFL, 17-16. The Texans are now 3 games out of first place in the AFC South and two games out of a wild card spot going into their bye. There were some positives this game, but the negatives outweighed the positives once again.

The Good:

Case Keenum showed why the Texans elected to keep him on the roster this year. He looked good throwing a nice touchdown pass to DeAndre Hopkins and didn’t throw any interceptions. He also showed some mobility, which the Texans have obviously been lacking in previous seasons. The Texans’ defense also forced turnovers for the first time in a few games. They kept the Texans in position to win the game by holding the Chiefs to only 17 points.

The Bad:

The offensive line did not play very well. The Texans only averaged 3 yards per carry on the ground and the line allowed 5 sacks. In the second half, the Chiefs were getting a ton of pressure and the Texans didn’t have much success. They were not able to put together a good drive when they needed one because Case Keenum did not have a lot of time to throw.

The Ugly:

The worst part of this game for the Texans was the injuries. Brian Cushing was lost for the season to a knee injury for the second year in a row. This is a devastating blow to the defense as they started struggling last season after his injury. They also just signed him to a long-term contract so this is not a good start to that investment. Arian Foster and Ben Tate also both got injured on Sunday. Their injuries are not as serious, but it did force fullback Greg Jones into action at tailback. With these injuries and Cierre Wood getting cut, the Texans are definitely in the market for another running back.
