A.J. Brown happy to be able to see himself on practice film

Titans rookie wide receiver was involved in a limited number plays Monday after weeks sidelined by injury

A.J. Brown did not have a starring role Monday.

Nonetheless, the Tennessee Titans’ rookie wide receiver looked forward to watching film of the day’s practice because – for the first time in weeks – he would be in it.

“Everyday it’s been a struggle when I was in (the training room),” Brown said. “… When I watch film, I kind of get upset that I’m not on the film. It’s just a blessing to be out here.”

The wide receiver out of Ole Miss and the Titans’ second-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft took part in every phase of the day’s workout, a first since he injured a hamstring during the first weekend of training camp.

He was not exactly a full participant as he noted that coaches and trainers had him on a limited number of plays. But it was progress for someone who is expected to have a significant role as a rookie.

“I’m feeling pretty good,” Brown said. “I’m trying to take it one step at a time. My reps are limited right now. We’re just taking it slow.”

The 6-foot-1, 226-pounder was one of four Titans’ 2019 draft picks who did not play in Thursday’s preseason opener at Philadelphia. It’s unclear whether he will be available against New England on Saturday at Nissan Stadium (6 p.m., WKRN-TV Ch. 2, Nashville) or how much he will be involved in joint workouts with the Patriots on Wednesday and Thursday.

His progress, however, is evident after weeks in which he was confined to the training and meeting rooms.

“It’s always good to see guys out there that haven’t been out there in a while,” coach Mike Vrabel said. “We’ll see how he feels and hopefully he can do more on Wednesday against the Patriots.”

Watching the film, Brown figured, would give him a better idea of how Monday went, although he already was certain that he did not hit all his marks or get everything right with the first take.

“Mentally, I got a little ways to go but physically I’m doing all right,” Brown said. “… There’s no rush. I’m just trying to come back. Whenever I (am) ready, everyone will know.”

Then – the Titans hope – he really will be something to see.
