The Philadelphia Flyers signed 24-year-old defenseman Michael Del Zotto on Tuesday to a one-year contract worth $1.3 million, according to Comcast Sports Net Philadelphia.

Del Zotto's signing comes on the same day as the news that another Flyers defenseman, Kimmo Timonen, is in a Finnish hospital receiving treatment for blood clots in his legs, and is out indefinitely.

Del Zotto will enter his sixth NHL season in 2014-15. He spent four and a half seasons with the Rangers before a trade earlier this year that sent him to Nashville in exchange for Kevin Klein. Del Zotto is not far removed from a 41-point 2011-12 season, but was held to three goals and 13 assists in 67 appearances last season between the Rangers and Predators

Del Zotto had this to say Tuesday night:

The Flyers begin preseason play Sept. 22 against the Toronto Maple Leafs
