Oilers' Keith Aulie suspended two games for hit on Flames' Matt Stajan

Friday January 2nd, 2015

Edmonton Oilers defenseman Keith Aulie has been suspended for two games after he laid an illegal check on Calgary Flames center Matt Stajan in the first period of Wednesday’s Oilers-Flames game, the NHL announced Thursday

Aulie, who received a five-minute major and a game misconduct for the check, hit Stajan in the head with his elbow as Stajan was trying to receive a pass in the first period of what became a 4-3 overtime Flames win.

Stajan later returned to the game.

Aulie, in his first season in Edmonton, has played in just 13 games this season and has not recorded a point. He has 49 penalty minutes for the Oilers.

Aulie will miss games against the Colorado Avalanche on Friday and New York Islanders on Sunday.

The Oilers are 8-22-8 this season and their 24 points are tied with the Carolina Hurricanes for fewest in the NHL.
