Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Matt Carle will miss six to eight weeks with torn adductor muscles in his lower abdomen, the team announced Monday. Carle will have surgery on Tuesday in Philadelphia.

Carle was injured during Tampa Bay's win over the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday. He missed Saturday's win over the Colorado Avalanche, breaking a streak of 347 consecutive games played.

Carle is third on the team in average ice time per game, behind only Anton Stralman and Victor Hedman. He is second among Lightning defensemen with four goals this season.

Blackhawks' Dan Carcillo suspended six games for crosscheck

Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman missed two games last week with a lower-body injury but returned to the lineup Sunday after Carle's injury.

Tampa Bay currently has the best record in the Eastern Conference.
