The No. 2 seed Washington Capitals will face the No. 3 seed New York Islanders in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.

The New York Islanders will face the Washington Capitals in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs. The Capitals are the No. 2 seed and the Islanders are the No. 3 seed.

New York finished third in the Metropolitan Division with a 47-28-7 record, while Washington finished second at 45-26-11.

The Capitals are led by left wing Alex Ovechkin, who led the NHL with 53 goals this season. The Islanders feature goaltender Jaroslav Halak, who finished third in the league with six shutouts.
