WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) Pairing Drew Stafford with Mark Scheifele helped the Winnipeg Jets end their losing skid.
Scheifele and Stafford each had two goals and an assist and the Winnipeg Jets beat the Vancouver Canucks 4-1 on Wednesday night to end a six-game losing streak.
Stafford put the Jets up 1-1 late in the second period with his first goal in 12 games. He scored again with 1:34 left in the game into an empty net.
''Twelve? OK,'' Stafford said when he asked about the end of his drought. ''At this point, I'm not really worried about stats or counting the games. That's just more clutter in your head.
''I'm just trying to stay solid and play the same way and eventually things will turn around. We changed the lines around, too, so the way I play the game is a little different tonight than it has been in the last 10, 12.''
Scheifele centered a line with Stafford on the right side and Mathieu Perreault on the other. Perreault had three assists.
Coach Paul Maurice put that trio together after the Jets returned from a four-game trip with four losses. Winnipeg was outscored 27-10 during its six-game skid and had allowed 5.25 goals per game over its past four.
''It's always awesome playing with Matty and, obviously, me and Staff have played a lot together, too,'' Scheifele said. ''We were moving the puck well, we were on the forecheck hard.
''Obviously, it's the first game. We still can do better, and hopefully we can build off that.''
Ondrej Pavelec made 29 saves for the Jets.
Ryan Miller stopped 30 shots and the Canucks lost their fourth game in a row. This was the last in a seven-game trip - Vancouver's longest this season.
''We were right there and trying to get a chance at the end to tie it up, but just couldn't quite get there,'' Miller said. ''We keep saying we're close. We've got to make the turn here.''
Daniel Sedin scored on the power play for Vancouver 6:44 into the second period.
After Vancouver's Luca Sbisa sent rookie winger Nikolaj Ehlers to the dressing room with an illegal hit to the head, Scheifele scored on the power play 5:55 in for a 1-0 lead. It was only the fifth time this season Winnipeg has scored the first goal in a game. Ehlers returned to action later in the period.
The first period was a testy one. At one point, skaters paired up for punching and shoving in front of Winnipeg's net.
Sedin tied it after Alexandre Burrows lost the puck and Sedin picked it up in front of the Jets' net and put it past Pavelec. It was Sedin's seventh goal of the season and 899th career point.
Stafford got the go-ahead goal with 2:31 left in the second when he got his own rebound and flipped a backhand over Miller for his sixth of the season.
The Canucks had outshot the Jets 24-14 heading into the third period.
Scheifele scored his second of the game with 2:45 left on a rebound and Stafford finished it off with 1:34 left in the third.
NOTES: The Jets are home against Arizona on Saturday night, and the Canucks host Chicago the same night.
