Report: Evander Kane under investigation for sexual assault
The team confirmed the story, which first was reported by The Buffalo News on Sunday evening.
“We take the allegation made today against Evander Kane very seriously,” the team said in the statement. “We are gathering facts and have been in touch with the NHL and Evander’s representatives. Until we have more information we will not have any additional comment.”
The News reported that Kane is being investigated for an alleged incident that occurred Sunday morning in a downtown hotel room near First Niagara Center. Kane has not been charged with any crime, and law enforcement officials would confirm only that there is an ongoing investigation by officers from the department’s Sex Offense Squad and that they do not expect it to be resolved “in the very near future.”
Kane’s attorney, Paul Cambria, declined comment to the Associated Press. Cambria’s name became familiar to the hockey world this past summer as the attorney representing Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane while he was under investigation for sexual assault.
After a lengthy investigation, officials decided there was not enough evidence to press charges against Patrick Kane.
Evander Kane eight goals and five assists in 25 games this season, his first with the Buffalo Sabres.
