Doan sets Coyotes franchise record with 380th career goal

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) Arizona Coyotes captain Shane Doan has broken the franchise record with his 380th career goal.

Doan took Max Domi's feed on a 2-on-1 and beat Winnipeg rookie goaltender Connor Helleybuyck midway through the first period Thursday night.

Hall of Famer Dale Hawerchuk scored 379 goals for the then-Winnipeg Jets in 713 games from 1982-90. It took 1,422 games for Doan to surpass that mark.

Doan scored seven goals as a rookie in Winnipeg in the 1995-96 season before the Jets moved to the desert and became the Coyotes. The 39-year-old Doan has spent the past 19 seasons in Arizona.

He scored the record goal against the reborn Jets, who returned when the Atlanta Thrashers moved there in 2011.
