Defenseman Victor Hedman is a big part of the Tampa Bay Lightning keeping pucks of the net. Mostly, his physical presence is a deterrent to offensive players sticking around the crease.

On Friday against the Edmonton Oilers, the big 25-year-old Swede went above and beyond to assist his goalie when forward Leon Draisaitl had a yawning net to shoot at in the waning moments of the first period, only to be thwarted by Hedman’s efforts on the goal line.

ROUNDTABLE: Where does disgruntled Bolt Drouin end up?

Draisaitl got nothing but stick.

It might be one of the best saves of the season and it comes from a man not wearing the bulky pads between the pipes.
