Former University of North Carolina guard P.J. Hairston has joined the NBA D-League's Texas Legends, becoming the first player to join the league mid-season after beginning the year in college.
The Legends announced the signing today. Team owner Donnie Nelson saying that Hairston has had the attention of NBA scouts for some time.
“PJ has been on the NBA radar for a number of years now, and the opportunity for him to develop and showcase his ability with the Legends is unique. We are surrounding PJ with all of the necessary tools to prepare himself for the NBA Draft."
Hairston was dismissed from the team earlier this season after it was found he accepted impermissible benefits, including driving a car rented for him by a booster.
The former McDonald's All-American will not be able to be called up to the NBA this season, but will be able to declare himself for the upcoming 2014 draft, according to USA Today's Jeff Ziglitt.
