Wise through to halfpipe finals, Yater-Wallace out

KRASNAYA POLYANA, Russia (AP) Justin Dorey of Canada and reigning world champion David Wise of the U.S. are through to the men's Olympic halfpipe skiing finals.

Dorey posted the top score in qualifying on Tuesday, laying down 91.60 in his first run to lead a field of 12 skiers into the medal round. Wise was second with a score of 88.40.

Torin Yater-Wallace of the U.S. failed to advance. The 18-year-old is considered one of the best halfpipe skiers in the world, but he crashed during his first qualifying run and washed out at the end of his second.

Yater-Wallace struggled with injuries leading up to Sochi, puncturing a lung and breaking two ribs during separate incidents in December.
