U.S. Ski and Snowboard Assoc. prepared to hold substitute qualifier
PARK CITY, Utah (AP) The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association has plans in place to run substitute Olympic qualifying events for halfpipe and slopestyle if it needs them to fill out its five-contest selection schedule.
The finals for the third of five snowboard competitions, scheduled for Breckenridge, Colo., were canceled Saturday because of high wind and snow conditions.
Some athletes, including America's top female slopestyle qualifier, Jamie Anderson, said they would protest that decision in hopes that qualifying results would stand. But because the event was run under international rules, it wasn't USSA's call.
USSA is holding the fourth and fifth qualifiers in Mammoth Lakes, Calif., this week and said it was prepared to hold a replacement contest, as well, pending the appeals
