Statistically, Nick Watney excelled in three areas.
1. Scrambling: He missed 24 greens and got up and down on 18 of them, ranking first.
2. Par 5s: He was 11 under, ranking second.
3. Birdies made: He tied for fourth with 17.
Other than that, he was out of the top 10 in most major stats.

The scoring average at Torrey Pines was 74.010, the second-highest average there since the PGA Tour started keeping records in 1983. The highest was in 1993, when the course played to a 74.179 average. During last year's U.S. Open, the South Course played to a 74.712 average, just three quarters of a stroke higher.

Three-time Buick Invitational winner Phil Mickelson finished T42. His two-over-par 290 total is the first time he has finished above par in 16 made cuts at Torrey Pines.
Mickelson has won at least one West Coast Swing event in 13 of the previous 18 years. Going into his third event of the year, this week's AT&T, he has missed the cut at the FBR and tied for 42nd at the Buick. In 2007, after a T45 at the Hope and a T51 at the Buick and a missed cut at the FBR, he won the AT&T and finished second at the Northern Trust
