Belo Horizonte is scheduled to host the World Cup's semi-final game between the winners of Brazil-Colombia and Germany-France on July 8. According to Reuters, the overpass was "one of the many infrastructure projects aimed at improving the city's ailing public transport network," and was considered a legacy project from the World Cup. Construction on the overpass had not yet been fully completed.
