Sunderland has signed Brighton winger Will Buckley to a three-year contract.

Sky Sports reports Sunderland will pay a £2.5 million ($4.1 million) transfer fee for Buckley.

During his three seasons with Brighton, Buckley scored 19 goals. The 24-year-old played for current Sunderland manager Gus Poyet during his stint in Brighton. Before joining Brighton in 2011, Buckley played for both Rochdale and Watford.

Sunderland opens its Premier League season on Saturday against West Brom.
