United says Saturday it has "reached agreement with Ajax to sign Daley Blind, subject to a medical and personal terms." Sections of the English and Dutch media are reporting he will cost United 18 million euros ($23.6 million).

Blind was part of the Netherlands' World Cup squad coached by Louis van Gaal, who is now in charge of United, and can play in defense or midfield.

In overhauling a United team that finished a disappointing seventh in the Premier League last season, Van Gaal has spent about 130 million pounds ($215 million) on players this summer.

Argentina midfielder Angel Di Maria joined for a British-record fee of 59.7 million pounds ($99 million) Tuesday.
