Chelsea F.C. has signed defender Cesar Azpilicueta to a new five-year contract, the club announced Tuesday. Azpilicueta has played for Chelsea since arriving from Marseille in August 2012.

Chelsea F.C. has signed defender Cesar Azpilicueta to a five-year contract extension, the club announced Tuesday.

Azpilicueta has played for Chelsea since arriving from Marseille in August 2012. The 25-year-old has made 95 appearances, and scored a goal in last season’s Capital One Cup victory over Arsenal.

LYTTLETON: Summer transfer hits, misses

Last season, Chelsea conceded 27 goals in 38 games.

Azpilicueta played for Spain at the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The country did not make it out of the group stage, finishing third in Group B.

The defender received the Chelsea Players’ Player of the Year award last season.
