MLS Roundup: Lee Nguyen powers Revolution over visiting Sporting KC

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) -- Lee Nguyen scored his 11th and 12th goals of the season to give the New England Revolution a 3-1 victory over Sporting Kansas City on Wednesday night.

New England (11-12-3) took its first lead 3 minutes after halftime. An unmarked Nguyen settled a cross at the top of the box and bent a shot past goalkeeper Andy Gruenebaum. Nguyen added another goal in the fourth minute of stoppage time after forcing a defensive turnover.

Kansas City (12-9-6), second in the Eastern Conference, lost its third consecutive game. Sporting's goal came in the ninth minute on Soony Saad's header.

New England evened it at 1 right before halftime. Teal Bunbury won a 1-on-1 battle and blasted a shot past Gruenebaum.

U.S. international player Jermaine Jones made his first MLS start for New England.

UNION 1, TORONTO FC 0

CHESTER, Pa. (AP) -- Conor Casey scored early in the second half to help Philadelphia beat 10-man Toronto FC, spoiling Greg Vanney's debut as head coach.

Casey sent home Sebastien Le Toux's cross in the 55th minute for Philadelphia (8-9-9).

Toronto's Ashtone Morgan received a red card in the 77th minute for pulling down Le Toux on a breakaway. Le Toux's free kick from just outside the box was blocked by goalkeeper Joe Bendik.

Toronto (9-10-6) hasn't won in four matches and will host Philadelphia on Saturday. Ryan Nelsen was fired as coach Sunday, a day after a loss to New England.

SOUNDERS 4, CHIVAS USA 2

CARSON, Calif. (AP) -- Obafemi Martins and Andy Rose each scored two first-half goals to lead the Seattle Sounders to a 4-2 victory over Chivas USA on Wednesday night.

Seattle (16-7-3) won its third consecutive game to remain atop the Western Conference, while Chivas USA (6-14-6) had its winless streak reach eight matches.

Martins started the scoring for Seattle. He cleaned up Brad Evans' corner kick in the 11th minute and added a simple goal 5 minutes later. Seattle made it 3-0 when Rose redirected Evans' free kick it in the 38th minute. The duo combined on another free kick 4 minutes later for Evans' third assist of the first half.

Marco Delgado ended Chivas USA's six-game scoreless streak. He elevated over a defender to head home a goal in the 51st minute. Ryan Finley scored on a penalty kick in the 60th minute.
