Atletico Madrid's Mario Mandzukic to have surgery on broken nose

Atletico Madrid forward Mario Mandzukic has a broken nose and will have surgery, the team announced Wednesday

Mandzukic sustained the injury during Tuesday's loss to Olympiakos in a Champions League group stage match. It occurred in the third minute, but the forward played the rest of the match and scored on a close-range header.

Tests on Wednesday revealed the fractured nose, and the Croatian's surgery will take place on Thursday. 

Mandzukic signed a four-year contract with Atletico in July. He has two goals in five games so far with Atletico this season. 

Atletico next plays on Saturday against Celta Vigo.
