Aston Villa, manager Paul Lambert reach contract extension

Aston Villa announced that it has extended manager Paul Lambert's contract through the end of the 2017-18 season.

The English club is second in the English Premier League table with 10 points after winning three of its first four matches.

Aston Villa posted two 15th place finishes in its first two seasons under Lambert. He was hired in June 2012.

The Villa manager said: "I'm delighted to have the support of our Chairman, Randy Lerner, and Tom Fox, our new Chief Exec, and I'm determined that we continue building the Club to where we all want it to be.

"This is a massive football club, a fantastic football club. I knew the first two years would be tough but we've made progress and now we're beginning to see the benefits of all of that hard work.
