MADRID (AP) — Cristiano Ronaldo made amends for conceding a penalty by scoring four times, as he led Real Madrid to a 5-1 rout of Elche in the Spanish league on Tuesday.

Ronaldo fouled Pedro Mosquera while disputing a ball in the box in the 15th minute, allowing Edu Albacar to stroke the penalty beyond Costa Rica goalkeeper Keylor Navas — who was making his debut for Madrid after joining the club following a stellar World Cup.

But Gareth Bale leveled four minutes later, and Marcelo's questionable penalty, when he appeared to dive, sent Ronaldo to the penalty spot.

The Portugal forward drilled home the spot kick in the 28th, added a header four minutes later and converted another penalty in the 80th before striking again in stoppage time. Ronaldo's nine goals lead all scorers in La Liga. He has seven goals in his last two league matches, and the hat trick was his 25th with Real Madrid.

Madrid, meanwhile, has outscored its opponents 18-4 in its last three games in all competitions.
