NEWCASTLE, England (AP) — Gabriel Obertan scored his first Premier League goal since 2012 to secure Newcastle its first win of the season in Saturday's 1-0 defeat of Leicester.
The hosts should have taken the lead at St. James' Park in the 15th minute but defender Fabricio Coloccini curled wide from inside the area.
Newcastle striker Papiss Cisse could have opened the scoring in the 53rd. After intercepting Paul Konchesky's backpass he raced clear and rounded the goalkeeper but could only find the side netting.
Obertan struck in the 71st — his first at home for the Magpies. He beat three challenges before drilling a shot into the bottom corner.
The match was delayed by an hour after part of a newly erected big screen was dislodged by wind.
