Wednesday October 29th, 2014

Portland Timbers midfielder Diego Valeri will undergo surgery to repair a torn ACL in his left knee, the team announced Tuesday

The injury was sustained during Saturday's win over FC Dallas. Valeri is expected to miss five months after the surgery, which will be scheduled after the injury stabilizes.

Valeri had 11 goals and 14 assists in 32 starts for the Timbers this season, both of which were single-season records for Portland. Valeri was named to the 2014 MLS All-Star team.

The 28-year-old was a member of Lanús from 2003-2013 before being loaned to the Timbers in January 2013. Portland then exercised its option to buy Valeri in August 2013.

The Timbers finished the season in 6th place Western Conference with 49 points.
