Late Christian Eriksen goal lifts Spurs to road victory vs. Swansea City
SWANSEA, Wales (AP) — Christian Eriksen scored in the 89th minute as Tottenham went against the run of play to beat Swansea 2-1 on Sunday in the Premier League.
Harry Kane grabbed an early goal at the Liberty Stadium for the visitors in the fourth before Wilfried Bony equalized three minutes after the interval.
Danish playmaker Eriksen decided Tottenham's trip to Hull three weeks ago and he repeated the feat with a late strike by driving low inside Gerhard Tremmel's near post.
Eriksen's seventh goal of the season was tough on a Swansea side which dominated for large periods but was unable to take several clear-cut scoring opportunities.
Tottenham moved above Liverpool, Swansea and Newcastle to seventh place with 24 points from 16 games.
Swansea conceded a soft early goal after Eriksen's corner was sent towards the six-yard box where Kane rose above Angel Rangel to head home his first goal in five games after nine in 10.
Swansea had a penalty claim ignored by referee Robert Madley when Federico Fazio appeared to take plenty of former Tottenham man Gylfi Sigurdsson and little of the ball, and Spurs were perhaps fortunate not to have their numbers reduced before the break.
Erik Lamela swung an arm at Jefferson Montero after eyeing up the Ecuadorian, while Jan Vertonghen's punishment for bringing down Wayne Routledge was only a yellow card.
Bony's luck was in soon after the interval when Routledge broke behind Ben Davies and onto Angel Rangel's pass to cross into the middle.
Fazio blocked the first attempt but the ball fell kindly to Bony and he tucked away his eighth goal of the season with a minimum of fuss.
