Barcelona was on the verge of returning to Camp Nou with a two-goal lead following its first leg Champions League match against Manchester City, but Joe Hart's save of a Lionel Messi penalty kick kept the score at 2-1.

With the game nearly finished, Messi drew a foul from Pablo Zabaleta in the Manchester City box in the 93rd minute. But Messi's attempt — which could have given Manchester City a difficult task in the second leg — failed after Hart saved the initial kick and Messi missed an open rebound attempt.

Barcelona won the game 2-1 after first-half goals from Luis Suarez. Sergio Aguero scored for Manchester City.

Barcelona defeated Manchester City 4-1 on aggregate in last season's round of 16.
