Real Sociedad earns first away win this season in 1-0 victory over Getafe

MADRID (AP) — A second-half own goal by Vicente Guaita gave Real Sociedad a 1-0 win at Getafe in the Spanish league Monday, for its first away win of the season.

The game began with Getafe launching penetrating attacks and Sociedad goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli was forced to make two vital saves in the 45th minute, both from midfielder Pedro Leon.

Rulli stopped the first with a low dive to his right and the second when the ball slammed into his face from Leon's volley.

Inigo Martinez provoked Sociedad's goal in the 66th when he headed Esteban Granero's free kick onto the post and the ball bounced in off goalkeeper Guaita.

"We came here really up for a win and we hung on even though we suffered at times," Martinez said. "Our great goalkeeper is young and still able to get even better. This is a really important win for us."

The last time Sociedad won away in La Liga was almost a year ago.

"The game got away from us," said Getafe midfielder Pablo Sarabia. "A free kick has decided the match, showing us that we have to improve in those situations, but the sensations we feel aren't bad because frankly we had two good chances here at home."
