Athletic Bilbao's Iker Muniain tears ACL, out for rest of the season

MADRID (AP) — Athletic Bilbao says forward Iker Muniain has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligaments in his left knee and will be sidelined for the rest of the season.

A scan on Tuesday revealed the damage, and Athletic Bilbao says his recovery is likely to take "six to seven months."

The 22-year-old winger collided with Ever Banega just before halftime in the 2-0 loss at Sevilla on Saturday in the Spanish league.

Muniain will miss the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona on May 30.

Athletic says Spain midfielder Ander Iturraspe also picked up a leg muscle injury, and his condition is being monitored.

Athletic plays Valencia in the league on Thursday.
