Tuesday April 7th, 2015

Paris Saint-Germain defender David Luiz has been ruled out for the next month because of a hamstring injury, manager Laurent Blanc announced on Tuesday.

Luiz, 27, left Sunday’s win over Marseille in the first half with the injury and will miss both legs of the Champions League quarterfinal matchup with Barcelona.

In 23 Ligue 1 matches, Luiz has scored two goals on 21 shots.

In addition to Luiz’s injury, Blanc said midfielder Thiago Motta will miss time with a thigh injuy.

"I confirm that Luiz will be out for four weeks and 10 days for Thiago Motta," said Blanc.

"Thiago Motta is not available to play Saint-Etienne to prevent a thigh injury because of fatigue."

PSG is in first place with a 17-11-3 record and a one-point lead over Lyon. The club’s next match is on Wednesday against Saint-Etienne.

In Champions League play, PSG will host Barcelona on April 15 and conclude the series on April 21.
