Dnipro's Matheus collapses after collision in Europa League final

Wednesday May 27th, 2015

Dnipro forward Matheus collapsed following a collision in Wednesday's Europa League final against Sevilla.

With slightly less than five minutes of normal time remaining and Sevilla holding onto a 3–2 lead, Matheus and Sevilla left-back Benoit Tremoulinas went up for a high ball. Tremoulinas appeared to jump for the ball first, reaching a higher point before banging heads with Matheus.

After the play, Matheus collapsed as teammate Artem Fedetskyi came over to check on him.

Medical staff rushed onto the field with a stretcher to attend to Matheus after he collapsed. He regained consciousness before being taken off the field.

Sevilla wins second straight Europa League title; clinches UCL berth

Dnipro was forced to play out the remainder of the game with 10 men since it had made all three of its allotted substitutions. Sevilla hung on to secure a 3–2 win, the Europa League crown and a Champions League berth.
