Watch Timmy Chandler rip a left-footed blast for his first international goal in USA's friendly against Guatemala.
Timmy Chandler has taken his fair share of criticism for his play in a U.S. national team shirt, but there's little anyone can pick at about the right back's 58th-minute effort Friday night.
Chandler absolutely laced a left-footed shot from outside the area and beat Guatemala goalkeeper Paulo Motta for his first international goal (in 22 appearances) and one that gave the USA a 2-0 lead in a friendly at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee.
Chandler, the German-American right back who plays at Eintracht Frankfurt, cut inside, looked up and had a hit. Despite Motta going full extension, Chandler's shot found its way inside the left corner. Moments before, he had sent in an early cross toward Clint Dempsey that nearly resulted in a U.S. chance on frame.
The USA had gone ahead 1-0 on a 20th-minute own goal, after DeAndre Yedlin's cross was headed into Guatemala's net by center back Carlos Castrillo, and wound up winning 4-0 after Clint Dempsey and Chris Wondolowski added tallies in the second half.
