Fenerbahce midfielder Mehmet Topal survived a gun attack on his car Tuesday in Istanbul.

Topal, 29, was driving home after practice with a teammate when gunmen opened fire. BBC reports Topal's car had a bulletproof exterior.

Fenerbahce called the attack an “armed terrorist act” in a statement. Motives behind the incident are unclear. Topal reportedly pulled over and called for help immediately. He and teammate Uygar Mert Zeybek were unhurt.

Earlier this season, the team bus was fired upon while in the city of Trabzon, and the driver was wounded while driving over a viaduct. The incident led to Turkish Super League play being suspended for a week.
