Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea will miss another game, with manager Louis van Gaal continuing to sit his No. 1 option amid continued transfer speculation over a move to Real Madrid.

De Gea missed Manchester United's season-opening win over Tottenham, with new signing Sergio Romero earning the clean sheet in a 1-0 victory. Romero is expected to get the start against Aston Villa on Friday.

"There’s no difference. The transfer period is still open and he [de Gea] has still the same problem," Van Gaal told Manchester United's official website. He had said prior to the opener that de Gea wasn't mentally ready to suit up for United while still hoping for the transfer.

“He shall not play,” van Gaal previously said. “A human being is more than just a player and he cannot manage.”

The 24-year-old de Gea is a Madrid native and has long been linked to his hometown club to be the successor to the departed Iker Casillas. With another Spanish Manchester United goalkeeper, Victor Valdes, falling out with van Gaal, it leaves the manager's decision down to Argentine national team veteran Romero or 22-year-old English keeper Sam Johnstone.
