U.S. women's national team forward Abby Wambach announces retirement

Teammates, athletes and fans alike took to Twitter on Tuesday to react to Abby Wambach’s retirement announcement.

The U.S. women's national team forward announced her plans to retire from soccer on Tuesday, after she and the rest of the 2015 World Cup champions were honored by President Obama at the White House.

Wambach, who will finish her career as international soccer’s all-time leading scorer with 184 goals, will play her final game with the USWNT on Dec. 16 in New Orleans.

Wambach took to Twitter on Tuesday to thank those who acknowledged her illustrious career.
