Veteran Mexican defender Rafa Marquez is back at Atlas, where his career started, and the club's fan base appears to be quite pleased with his return.
A reported 10,000 fans showed up at Estadio Jalisco to welcome back Marquez, who signed with the club after a stint with Italian Serie A club Hellas Verona. Amid raucous chants of his name, Marquez trotted onto the field, where he was presented to the Atlas faithful. He began his club career there in 1996 as a 17-year-old, and he went on to play for Monaco, Barcelona, the New York Red Bulls, Club Leon and Hellas Verona before returning 19 years later as a 36-year-old who has captained Mexico at the last four World Cups.

Atlas finished in 16th place in the 2015 Liga MX Apertura, struggling with a 5-10-2 record.
