U.S. men's national team forward Bobby Wood was aiming left. His shot deflected right. It all counts the same, as his 10th goal of the season gave Union Berlin a 2-1 win over Karlsruher on Friday in mid-table 2. Bundesliga action.

Wood, who scored for the third straight game and his fifth goal in his last five stretching back to before Germany's winter break, pounced on a loose ball at the top of the box, navigated by a pair of defenders and let fly from about 18 yards. His shot, which was intended for the far corner, ended up deflecting off a defender, wrong-footing the goalkeeper and tucking inside the right post to cap the come-from-behind win in the 60th minute:

Wood will be aiming to keep his run of good form, with the USA's World Cup qualifiers against Guatemala looming just a month away.
