USWNT’s Hope Solo will go to Olympics despite Zika fears
U.S. women’s national team goalie Hope Solo plans to play in the 2016 Rio Olympics, despite her continued concerns over the outbreak of Zika virus in Brazil, reports Grant Wahl of Sports Illustrated.
Solo has previously said that she would consider not going to Brazil due to the risks involved with the virus, which has been linked to birth defects. The CDC confirmed Wednesday that Zika virus does lead to microcephaly, which infants to be born with small heads and brain damage.
The U.S. will play one of its opening games in Manaus, a city that struggled with mosquito control during the 2014 World Cup.
